Basketball Clinic kicks off in Balubad

BALUBAD, Marikina – Right before dawn breaks, 60 kids from Balubad, Marikina trooped to the Nangka Covered Court for the Saturday Morning Sports Clinic on basketball conducted by International Needs Philippines in coordination with St. Stephen’s High School and Athletes in Action last June 07, 2014.

The goal of the activity is to promote increased physical activity and implement values formation among INCAP and non-INCAP children in the community through sports and teamwork.

The event was formally opened by INPH Executive Director Julio Concepcion in his welcoming remarks about the importance of sportsmanship and having fun. Josephine San Jose, the head of Sponsorship program, hosted the one-day culmination of the program.

Boys and girls were taught basic plays and techniques of the Philippines’ #1 sport through shooting, dribbling, blocking and footwork drills by the good coaches from University of the East. After the drills, a friendly game was conducted in the side of the boys and girls, assisted and umpired by the respective coaches.

INPH Psychosocial Intervention and Feeding Activity in Zamboanga

Last February 15-19, 2014, the International Needs Philippines, along with Operation Blessing Philippines, conducted a week-long psychosocial intervention and feeding activity for the families affected by last year's Zamboanga standoff between the army and MNLF. About 113 adults
and 144 children joined the activities.

The International Needs Inc. provided logistics for the psychosocial activities such as package of flat television, DVD player, and a set of “Superbook” with complete episodes for the children’s film showing together with other materials for children’s workshops.

The mothers were given pedicures and manicures through the Love Drive for Children and Adults. They were also accommodated to a free medical consultation with free medicines.

A Message of Gratitude

Hundreds of thousands of families lost their homes, some even loved ones, when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. Hearts were broken as history was written. It was a devastation nobody ever imagined.

And yet, as grim as the situation was, the helping hands were overwhelming. The whole International Needs community provided immediate help for the typhoon victims, of which we are very thankful.

Your generosity provided much-needed relief goods and other life-saving necessities for the victims of the disaster in Leyte, where more than 116 sponsored children live.

  • 750 relief packs were distributed to the communities. Each pack contained ready-to-eat rice and ready-to-eat food.
  • Medicines were also provided, and first-aid was given to those in need.
  • Temporary shelter and materials for repairs of damaged houses were also provided for the families.
  • A stress debriefing program was also conducted among the children, wherein they participated in various activities like singing, dancing, story-telling, drawing, and games.
  • A 10-day feeding program was also done for the rehabilitation of the children’s health.
  • Trauma counselling sessions are also in line, which will be done in partnership with Asian Theological Seminary.
  • Financial assistance are also being made available to local churches to rebuild their facilities damaged by the typhoon.

International Needs Philippines is humbled and inspired by your tremendous amount of generosity to the typhoon victims. The families are very grateful for your help. This is a great step towards their revival amidst this tragedy.

Thank you for being a blessing to the Philippines. Truly, God is at work in the country.

Yours in Christ,
